Civitella Paganico
Excursions
The Civitella Paganico area is a paradise for nature lovers, a vast, intact and wild territory, rich in woods, but also in valleys and hills, which can be explored with excursions and trekking routes on foot, by bike or on horseback.
Woods and rivers, historic centers and solitary monuments make the Ombrone valley a place worthy of a careful visit. From a naturalistic point of view, the most interesting area coincides with the Natural Reserves of Farma and Basso Merse, which is located a short distance from the Municipality of Civitella Paganico between the Provinces of Grosseto and Siena. Here you will find the oak and downy oak woods dominating the panorama but also a rich Mediterranean scrub.
On the two banks of the Ombrone, the landscape becomes sweeter and alternates with fields planted with woods. The dense Mediterranean scrub covers the hills that touch the localities of Sticciano, Batignano and Roselle, overlooking the plain in front of Grosseto.
Among the numerous historical centers, Casal di Pari, Pari, Civitella Marittima, Monte Antico, Paganico, which are part of the Municipality of Civitella Paganico, are worth a visit, but you can also find interesting places in Campagnatico, Sasso d’Ombrone, Batignano and Sticciano. . The Etruscan and Roman city of Roselle is one of the most important in Tuscany and includes a splendid archaeological itinerary among excavations that have brought to light Necropolis and Etruscan villages.
Another very beautiful path to take is the one at the Terme di Petriolo, here you will find a wide network of paths that connect Grosseto to the Province of Siena, while at the Belagaio castle you can find those of Trekking Roccastrada, in Cinigiano and Castiglioncello Bandini you connect with the paths of the Amiata.
